How a Low Carbohydrate Diet Plan Works

During the first two weeks of almost any low carbohydrate diet plan, you are limited to 20 grams of carbs a day. That sends your body into a fat-burning state called ketosis. Obviously, if your body is burning fat, your losing fat. And most people who are on a low carbohydrate diet plan somehow find the energy to work out too. If you have the energy, go for it! Why? Because the first 20 minutes of any exercise is spend burning carbs, not fat. However, if you limit your carb intake, the carbs you do eat are being used by other parts of your body (carbs are one of the only nutrients, in fact, to make it to the brain). That means you have very few, if any, carbs to be burned, and your body switches to fat burning mode faster. The people who work out while on a low carbohydrate diet plan are the ones who will most likely see results the fastest. Eventually, when your body runs out of fat to burn, it starts burning protein. At this point, you need to start eating a few more carbs, because if your body starts burning protein, uric acid is released into your bloodstream, which can lead to kidney damage.

Now you know how so many people are shrinking in size when they're on a low carbohydrate diet plan!
