German Chocolate Cake
We have all heard of German chocolate cake and most of us assume that it is in fact a part of the German cuisine. But, alas, it is another misnomer continuing to confuse us to this very day. It was actually named for the man who created the dark baking chocolate for the Baker's Chocolate Company. It was created by Mr. German in 1852 an they named the resulting product for him, thus "Baker's German's Sweet Chocolate".
The Fame of the German Chocolate Cake
The country first got a hold of the recipe for German chocolate cake in 1957 when it was published in a Dallas newspaper, having been submitted by a housewife in the area. German chocolate cake became a favorite here and he recipe spread into many of the kitchens here. Interested in making a German chocolate cake for you and your family? Here's a simple German chocolate cake recipe that will delight the whole gang:
And the ingredients are:
- 1/2 cup softened margarine
- 1 cup chopped pecans
- 1 cup coconut
- 1 cup softened cream cheese
- 1 package german chocolate cake mix
- 2 cups powdered sugar
First grease and flour a round baking pan and place the coconut and the pecans at the bottom of the pan.
Prepare the cake mix according to the directions on the box and pour the mixture over the coconut and pecans.
Combine the cream cheese, sugar, and butter and drop it by the spoonful on the top of the cake.
Bake in an oven preheated to 350 F for about 45 minutes or until done.
Don't get too excited- let it cool before you go cutting into it!
