Cakes
One of the most fun parts of planning a wedding is looking at (and sampling) all the different kinds of wedding cakesthat are out there. You can even get a groom's cake for the wedding. And some of the most fun cakes are birthday cakes. These days, cakes can be made in any shape and decorated in almost any way imaginable. And that's exactly what it takes--imagination.
Wedding Cakes
There are popular trends in wedding cakes, like having cascading flowers from the top of the cake wrapping around to the front, or a tiered cake that looks like wedding presents (with an edible bow on top) or even wedding cakes that appear to have pearls on them. It's so much fun to look at all the different types of wedding cakes, and it's hard to choose which one you want. Traditional wedding cakes are white with white frosting. If you want to incorporate chocolate, you can, but typically that's reserved for the groom's cake.
Grooms cakes can literally be in any shape or form. Online you can find grooms cakes in the shape of a cowboy hat, an armadillo, a race car....anything the groom might be into. A lot of people opt for a grooms cake with the logo of his favorite sports team, or one with a theme of his favorite sport. The options are endless.
Birthday Cakes
Speaking of endless options....birthday cakes (particularly children's birthday cakes) can also be made in a variety of ways. You can make it a pink "princess" cake with a little tiara, a cake shaped like Winnie the Pooh, a cake shaped like a guitar, a cake shaped like a football, a Barbie doll cake, etc. Most craft stores have a cake decorating section where you can find cake pans of all different shapes and sizes, along with instructions about how to decorate these cakes. You don't have to buy a special pan though. You can use round and square cake pans to make various different cakes. All you have to do is know where to cut the cakes. It's just like stenciling--you can trace around a shape with a knife on a cake to make whatever shape you want. You can easily make a heart-shaped cake out of a square cake (turned diagonally) and a round one (cut in half to make the round part of the heart).
Whether you buy a cake or make it yourself, be creative and have fun!
